From performance to production, Trinity students experienced music in its fullest form during their recent trip to Nashville. From walking Broadway and touring the Ryman Auditorium to engaging in hands-on learning experiences, the trip brought classroom lessons to life in meaningful and memorable ways.

At the Country Music Hall of Fame, Trinity’s Vocal Ensemble and Orchestra demonstrated not only their musical preparation but also their professionalism by performing for an impromptu public audience in a large, open space. The experience strengthened their adaptability and confidence, reinforcing the qualities that define a strong music education.

The highlight for many came during the songwriting and production workshop, where students worked alongside accomplished industry professionals to create an original song inspired by their journey. Through collaboration, creativity and a willingness to share ideas, students experienced firsthand the process behind songwriting. The result is more than just a composition; it’s a collective reflection of their voices, their experiences and their growth as musical artists.

A particularly meaningful moment of the trip was the visit to Fisk University. Students had the opportunity to hear the renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers, whose legacy dates back to the 19th century and played a critical role in preserving and elevating the tradition of spirituals. Experiencing their performance firsthand provided a powerful connection to the history and cultural significance of American music. It also offered students a deeper understanding of how music can serve as both artistic expression and a force for storytelling, resilience and change. The visit added an important layer of context to the trip, reinforcing lessons that extend well beyond the classroom.

Beyond the performances and workshops, the trip offered a rich range of experiences that broadened students’ understanding of music’s cultural and historical roots. Visits to places like Nashville provided meaningful context, connecting classroom learning to the wider story of American music. Students explored genres, legacies and innovations that continue to shape the industry today.

With the leadership of Erin Flynn and the support of dedicated parent chaperones, students grew as musicians, collaborators and confident performers. The original song they created together now serves as a lasting reminder of a truly transformative experience.
