VIRGINIA BEACH — The Trinity Episcopal field hockey team defeated Norfolk Academy 5-1 on Saturday to end the season the way it wanted to -- as VISAA Division I state champions.

“Every single second of our past four years has been for this moment, and the fact that we could do this for everyone our senior year is just — it’s like words can’t describe it,” said Titans senior Emma Nash.

Last year, Norfolk Academy edged Trinity Episcopal 1-0 in overtime to win the state title. This year, the Titans made it a season-long goal to make it this far and avenge its previous loss.

“We didn’t get a chance to play them this season in the regular season because it got canceled. So coming into this game, it was like our revenge. We were so ready to take it to them. We just wanted it so badly,” said Titans senior Christie van de Kamp.

Added Titans senior Annie Snead: “It’s definitely been in the back of our minds since the final whistle blew at the last game. It’s been a dream come true making it to this moment and I can’t believe it’s over, but I’m glad it ended this way.”
