Announcing Next Athletic Director: Anna Prillaman

Experienced coach and administrator will build on a foundation of excellence
Trinity is proud to announce that Anna Prillaman will be the school’s next athletic director beginning July 1, 2019. Prillaman takes the baton from Becky Currier, athletic director for the past four years, who will will return to her former roles as a teacher in the math department and coach of the golf team.

Prillaman brings to the position six years of athletic administration experience at Trinity, the past two as associate athletic director. She has been a classroom teacher and student advisor at Trinity and boasts 15 years of coaching experience that includes stints in volleyball, basketball, tennis and softball at St. Anne's-Belfield School, Atlee High School, St. Catherine's School and Trinity.

Prillaman was a member of the 2000 Midlothian High School state-championship girls basketball team before becoming a four-year starter and captain of the women’s basketball team at the University of Virginia under the direction of hall of fame coach Debbie Ryan. She holds a master’s in education from the Center for Sport Leadership at VCU and was recently named a certified athletic administrator (CAA) by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

“As both a coach and associate AD, Anna has built strong relationships with students and parents as well as with directors and coaches from our peer schools,” said Head of School Rob Short. “More recently, as Anna received her national certification as an athletic administrator this winter, she and I have enjoyed discussing the important role athletics plays in forming community and bringing everyone together.”

"I am humbled and excited for the opportunity to lead Trinity's Athletic Department,” said Prillaman. “Our coaches are passionate, our leadership is dedicated to the mission of the school, and I could not feel more at home in this extremely supportive community. I look forward to working diligently and intentionally alongside our coaches to provide the support needed for our student-athletes and programs to succeed."

About Trinity Athletics:

The Trinity athletics program is geared towards developing the whole person. Coaches work closely with athletes to build character traits like hard work, discipline, respect, cooperation and commitment that will benefit them in sports, academics, and beyond. For each Trinity team, the emphasis is on personal improvement, camaraderie and the value of competition.

Trinity requires all of its students to earn athletic/activity participation credit for a total of six seasons during their Trinity years. Titans can participate by playing for or managing one or more of over 40 teams in 22 sports, from volleyball to swimming, and golf to football.

Trinity is a proud member of the Virginia Preparatory League (boys) and the League of Independent Schools (girls), as well as the Virginia Independent School Athletics Association (VISAA). Trinity Titans consistently win state championships, league titles, sportsmanship awards, and coach of the year awards.

The 50,000-square-foot Estes Athletic Center features two gyms, a strength and fitness center, multiple locker rooms and team meeting rooms, school store, concession stand and alumni rooms for meetings and social events. Trinity’s tennis teams compete at Southampton Recreation Association. The swim teams train and compete in a 50-meter, 8-lane competition pool at SwimRVA. The home course for the golf team is Salisbury Country Club.

This school year, 13 Trinity seniors have already committed to playing intercollegiate athletics — where they will join 71 other Titans playing at the NCAA level. Of those, 47 will compete at the Division I level.
