Elite Greater Richmond High School Jazz Band taps three Trinity musicians
Josef Kuhn ’19, David McCracken ’20 and Ben Slone ’19 have each been selected to represent Trinity in the Greater Richmond High School Jazz Band for 2019. This trio comprises Trinity’s strongest showing to date in the elite music ensemble. The band will rehearse this spring under the direction of VCU’s internationally renowned jazz educator Antonio Garcia.
“They play very demanding literature, many pieces that are at collegiate or even professional ensemble level. Mr. Garcia is an internationally renowned jazz educator so they are quite fortunate to get to be in this group under his leadership,” said Trinity performing arts head and band director Brian Rollins. “It’s quite an honor to be selected to play in this group and we’re proud of these fine young musicians, who are outstanding ambassadors for our music program!”
You can see (and hear!) them in action at the 14th Annual Titan Jazz & Art Festival here at Trinity on Saturday, April 13, 2019. The band will perform a second time at VCU’s Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall on May 4, 2019.
“As someone who wants to pursue a career in STEM, being able to have the opportunity to meet another woman who has made an impressive career for herself in STEM, is an inspiration for me,” said Madison Jewett ‘26
