A Day of Learning and Innovation

Robotics and Technology students enjoy hands-on tour of local design and manufacturing company
On Thursday, September 21, students in Trinity’s Robotics and Technology Fundamentals classes took a field trip to visit Evergreen, a Richmond-headquartered company that designs, manufactures and distributes home decorating products, outdoor garden accents, flags, banners and licensed sports items. Students had the opportunity to view Evergreen’s showroom and storeroom facilities and spent the day getting a behind the scenes tour with Evergreen’s CEO John Toler (parent of Jack Toler ’28) and Director of Visual Brand Management Lee Crowe (Leah Crowe ’24).

Toler and Crowe led the Trinity students through the design process, from conceptualization and product development to graphic design, advertising, and digital marketing. Students had the opportunity to check out Evergreen’s flatbed printer as it custom-print Trinity-branded entry mats on demand and were excited to be able to take home their very own product.

Highlights of the day included hearing how to run a successful business from Evergreen founder and chairwoman Ting Xu, watching new products be photographed on set for website and catalogue release, learning how to digitally market and run an online business with Vice President of e-Commerce Emily Shannon and checking out Evergreen’s newly-implemented AI robotic automation system GreyOrange in action in their warehouse. The field trip provided Trinity students with a wonderful look at a successful business model from start to finish using a variety of different technologies.
