Homecoming Weekend 2019 Recap

A spirited two-day celebration of all things Trinity
Homecoming weekend 2019 was a spirited success, as over 300 alumni, parents and guests gathered for events over two perfect fall days.

The weekend kicked off with the traditional student Pep Rally in the Estes Athletic Center. Following a week of interclass competition, including an egg toss, knockout, and finally a rousing lip-sync battle, the Class of 2020 won the coveted Titan Cup.

Titans then spread out across the athletic fields in four contests on Friday evening, claiming victory in three. Boys soccer defeated Blue Ridge School in a close match (1-0). The field hockey team defended their home field against state rival Norfolk Academy (4-1). Girls volleyball defeated STAB (3-0), while girls tennis narrowly fell to STAB (5-4).

Later that evening, alumni from the classes of 4s and 9s gathered in the Academic Commons for a Reunions Weekend celebration. The class of 1989 had one of the largest turnouts, as they celebrated their 30th reunion. Alumni reminisced with old friends and teachers, finding familiar faces amidst a growing campus with new facilities built since their graduation. Festivities continued into the night with the Annual Oyster Roast in Dunn Courtyard.

Saturday morning’s events began with a luncheon honoring the IB diploma candidates from the recently graduated class of 2019. Only a few weeks into their first semester at college, the graduates remarked that the Trinity IB Diploma Programme has given them a boost in their writing, time management and critical thinking skills.

On Saturday afternoon, current students and alumni from the class of 2019 picked up their copies of the fresh-from-the box Shield yearbook, which were completed over the summer and printed this fall.

School spirit was on full display at Aycock Stadium for the weekend’s culminating football game. After the Trinity Tri-tones a capella group sang the national anthem, the Trinity Pep Band kept the crowd on its feet throughout the game. With excellent all-around play, and the support of the student cheering section, the Titans beat North Cross School (45-10) to cap off a thrilling game and a successful Homecoming Weekend.
