Trinity Episcopal went 16 years without a victory over its city rival, Benedictine. Now the Titans have two in a row.
Josh Brown scored 28 points Wednesday night, and the Titans’ defense was stifling in the second half, sending Trinity to a 71-48 victory over No. 10 Benedictine.
Back when Trinity coach Rick Hamlin was a Trinity student, the Titans matched up well with Benedictine (11-9). But from 1998 to 2013, the Titans (13-6) never found a way to beat the Cadets. Their dry spell ended last year in the state tournament.
“I want Benedictine-Trinity to be a good rivalry,” Hamlin said. “Both teams have to win for it to be a rivalry.”
Trinity has won seven of eight and has begun to hit its stride.
