Amy Chaplin Design Fundamentals

Course Description

This class explores the fundamentals of two- and three-dimensional works of art. Classes consist of lecture, cooperative learning experiences and reflection and responses to art. Students will understand different mediums and techniques used to explore composition, expressive qualities and intent of the artist. The overall goal is for students to develop vocabulary, theories and concepts that can be applied to their own creative process. Students will receive credit on a pass/fail basis, and fill the prerequisites for the IB visual art program.

About the Instructor

A graduate of both Trinity Episcopal School and Guilford College, Amy Baynum Chaplin ’88 has taught visual arts at Trinity since 2005. Her areas of expertise include design fundamentals, lead 3D IB certified instructor, and independent studies. She also teaches sculpture and advanced ceramics. Mrs. Chaplin discovered her obsession with clay in college, and later apprenticed with three area potters while teaching. She has received several Partners-In-Arts grants, participates in area shows, and artist-in-residence programs. She specializes in integrating art into all subjects.
