From the Head of School: Looking Ahead to the Remainder of 2019-20 School Year

Dear Trinity Families,

Today I shared in our Morning Meeting that the governor has announced all schools, public and independent, are to be closed through the end of the school year. This announcement, in the interest of the public good, will take time to process.  Since we will not be able to return to the campus this year, we will be filled with many different emotions — sadness, frustration, anxiety, disappointment. All of those are natural and necessary as we live through these unprecedented circumstances.  As I told students this morning, when you’re disappointed in something, it means that you care deeply. And our community does care deeply. This is something to be proud of.

In the meantime, it was inspiring this week to see the launch of our distance learning program, which will continue. I’ve been so uplifted by the messages I've received from parents, students and teachers over the last few days expressing gratitude for Trinity’s efforts to maintain a sense of community and shared purpose. I am especially grateful to our teachers and staff, whose continued creativity and passion for teaching benefits our students every day.

In the coming days and weeks, we will find more ways to connect, to celebrate one another and to honor our seniors. While the iconic year-end moments will not unfold exactly the way we expected, we will find ways to reschedule or reshape those events that we look forward to each spring. We are a very creative school filled with good will, and I am confident we will create meaningful solutions together.

Trinity has always been a school deeply committed to our mission. As we work together creatively to shape our future this spring, it is our mission that will continue to guide us.  In many ways, this 2019-2020 year has been one of my favorite years of all time. We have had so much to celebrate and while we experience challenges here in the final weeks, it is important to finish what we started, to recognize all we have accomplished, and cherish the time we have together.

Thank you all,

Rob Short
