2021-22 Course Selection and Scheduling Process

Dear Trinity Families,

Even in the midst of some of the coldest days of the year, we are actively planning for the 2021-2022 school year. Beginning Monday, February 22, students will start to choose their courses for the next school year through PowerSchool. Despite the extraordinary circumstances that all of us are facing this year, our teachers are confident that students are meeting the challenge, are learning and growing, and are being prepared for the next school year.

We encourage students to be thoughtful and choose their courses with care so as to achieve their academic goals. For the past few weeks, 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students have received instruction regarding their academic options and are meeting with their current teachers to discuss placement for next year. Teachers recommend students for the next level based on the student’s current academic performance and grasp of the emphasized skills, as well as the prerequisites for success in each class for the following year. Juniors will be meeting with their college counselors and reviewing their course selections with them.

Please take some time to carefully review the 2021-2022 Course Description Guide available on the website and discuss the options with your child. A variety of subjects are offered in each discipline and at different levels. All levels are college preparatory and the goal is to place each student in courses at levels that are challenging, yet developmentally appropriate. (It is important to distinguish on the website between the course description guide for next year and the current year’s offerings. All current year courses are listed under “Departments & Curriculum,” while the future courses are listed under “Course Description Guide (2021-2022).” Both listings are interactive and responsive, so they can be viewed on any device — desktop, laptop or mobile. Scrolling down to the bottom of the Course Description Guide screens will allow students and families to see tables outlining our course progressions from one level to the next, over the four or five years your student grows at school.

At Morning Meeting, there will be an announcement about course selection, followed by an email to each student with instructions for choosing courses through PowerSchool. Students will then have until March 5 to complete course selections. They may work with an assigned scheduler at any point during the February 22-March 5 scheduling window. In addition, current sophomores interested in pursuing the International Baccalaureate diploma should meet with Marti Truman, IB Diploma Programme Coordinator, to refine their schedules between February 22 and April 17.

Parents with questions regarding the courses recommended or scheduled for their student(s) for next year may contact a current teacher or their assigned scheduler:

Seeing our students developing their interests and talents is very fulfilling for the faculty at Trinity. Observing this part of our mission unfold is a hallmark of this time of year.

Yours truly,
Associate Head of School
