Titans Repeat as TDIT Champs

The girls basketball team defeated Monacan HIgh School on December 21 to successfully defend their Times-Dispatch Invitational Tournament title, which they also won in 2017.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch coverage, "The Titans dominated from start to finish and had three scorers over 20 points in a dominating 87-55 championship victory....

“That’s what we wanted to do. We wanted to come out and make that statement early,” Lonon said. “It was surprising to see a 30-point lead, but I trust my girls to go out and execute.

Leading the way for Trinity in its second consecutive TDIT title was Elaina Chapman, who finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds on her way to being named Most Valuable Player. Point guard Angel Burgos also provided a superior performance, scoring a game-high 26 points, dishing out 10 assists and claiming six steals. Kristy Hamze rounded out the team’s high scorers with 21 points. Burgos and Hamze were named to the all-tournament team.

While the trio brought the fireworks on offense, it was on defense where Trinity was able to make its mark. The Titans recorded 18 steals and nine blocks, and held Jordan Hodges, Monacan’s leading scorer. to only 6 points in the first 16 minutes of play. The guard finished with a team-high 17 points and was named to the all-tournament team. Nation Wilson added 16 points for the Chiefs."
