Course Description and Objectives:
This course satisfies the requirements of both US National and European Standards. It will give the students the ablility to understand, speak,
read and write simple German sentences and common phrases using proper
pronunciation, basic vocabulary and appropriate grammatical and
syntactical structures. It will also give the students an
appreciation for various aspects of the culture and lifestyle of the
German-speaking countries.
The format is often interactive, and priority is placed
on student participation through communicative activities.
Respect, courtesy and acceptance of each other are all important
to help create an atmoshpere where students feel comfortable
participating. Students are expected to take an active role in their own learning.

Homework in the Workbook or Intensivtrainer will earn 100% if done on time
and 0% if it is late. Other assignments will have 10 points
deducted for each day they are late up to 5 days. After that, they earn 0%. Excused absences will
not affect the grade. Homework should be turned in as soon as possible after an excused
absence.
All assignments will be posted on this website under "student resources" for German 1. Please bookmark it, you will be using it daily.
While smaller quizzes may be given on any day, tests will be limited to Mondays and Thursdays.
